Guidelines for the Preparation of Posters
Layout and Structure
- Print quality and dimensions:
- The poster should be A0 size (84.1 x 118.9 cm or 33.1 x 46.8 inches), printed in portrait orientation.
- The poster should be printed on matte paper without hard backing so you can roll it up for travel.
- Images should be printed at a resolution of between 150 to 300dpi.
- Title and Authors:
- Place the title at the top center.
- Use a large, bold font (at least 72 pt) for the title.
- Include author names and affiliations below the title in a slightly smaller font (48-60 pt).
- Sections:
- Common sections include Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, and References.
- Arrange sections logically and use headings to distinguish them.
- Ensure a natural flow, often left to right or top to bottom.
- Column Layout:
- Use a column layout (typically three columns for A0 size).
- Keep columns narrow enough to read easily from top to bottom without excessive eye movement.
Fonts and Text
- Font Choice:
- Use clear, readable fonts (e.g., Arial, Helvetica, Calibri).

- Avoid using too many colours; stick to 2-3 primary colours.
- Ensure good contrast between text and background.
Alignment and Spacing
- Alignment:
- Align text and visuals neatly to create a cohesive look.
- Use grids and guides to maintain alignment and spacing.
- Spacing:
- Maintain consistent spacing between sections, paragraphs, and visuals.
- Use white space effectively to avoid a cluttered appearance.
Additional Elements
- Logos:
- Include institutional and sponsor logos at the top or bottom.
- Ensure logos are high-resolution and properly aligned.
- Contact Information:
- Provide contact information (e.g., email) for the lead author.
- Place contact information in a prominent yet unobtrusive location.
- QR Codes:
- Consider adding a QR code linking to supplementary materials or the full paper.
- Place the QR code in a convenient yet non-intrusive location.
Review and Proofreading
- Proofread:
- Check for spelling and grammatical errors.
- Ensure all information is accurate and up-to-date.
Poster display
- Poster mounting:
- You will be provided with all the necessary materials to mount your poster at the conference venue.
- Instructions and materials will be provided when you register on-site.
